The Top Ten - week ending 27 August 2016

The end of August is nigh. So, too, is the Summer.....officially. Buy we all know that the warm weather can stay with us well into September, extending that seasonal high if only for a few more weeks.

Summer, as they say, is only a state of mind, and we here at This is Lounge are well aware of that fact. So let's continue to enjoy the weather, and the music.

This week, Afterlife and Luederwaldt trade places in the charts, as the votes continue to reveal your top two favourites. Emapea has kicked Cantoma out of the third position, and Peter Pearson makes an increased rise.

Not surprisingly, Massive Attack, and their new single, The Spoils, jumps from Bubbling Under to number ten this week.

Along with a new Michael e track, a song from a May release joins Bubbling Under. A collaboration between Afterlife and Lenny Ibizarre, from an EP/single entitled The Lost Tapes: a wonderfully chilled composition called Transcendental. I hope you like it.

Head on over to www.thisislounge.com and cast your vote if you want to see it move up the chart. That goes for any song on the chart. I want to hear from you! Show me what you like!

Thanks again for supporting the station and the artists. Be sure to use the artist's links to follow up on any purchases you may want to make.

The Top Ten - week ending 20 August 2016

Happy Saturday, my fellow loungers! Also, a shoutout to my Italian friends: Happy Ferragosto! There's a big celebration in my city, as we hope that the rain holds off.

As we reach the middle of August, it is also nature's way of reminding us that the end of Summer is nigh. The sunsets are getting earlier, but so far, the temperatures in my city are still in the high 20's/low 30's. I'll take it as long as I can!

And to go with those beautiful sunsets, we have a perfect soundtrack. This is Lounge, accompanied by your favourite cold beverage, is a great way to end your day.... or begin it, for that matter!

With Afterlife continuing to top the chart this week, you couldn't be in better hands. Torsten Luederwaldt also remains steadfast at number two, as Cantoma moves into the third position. There's something for everyone!

Thank you to you all for your votes at www.thisislounge.com. Your input really makes a difference!

This week also saw some great new music making it's way to the station. The Cooltrane Quartet, featuring Karen Souza on vocals, sees their latest single release, a jazzy cover of Maroon 5's Moves Like Jagger, slip in at number ten, as it relinquishes it's place from Bubbling Under.

Big excitement in the world of Chillout last week as one of the maestros of the genre, Michael e, released his long awaited album, Day by Day. We've chosen the title track as our initial choice. I hope you're enjoying it, along with the latest Massive Attack single, The Spoils. As is with most of The Attack's material, it veers slightly into the realm of dark chill. But hopefully, not enough to bring down the beach house vibe of the station's sounds.

As usual, thanks for your support - here at the station and to the artists we play. Your donations and legal downloads help keep the music alive.

Now, on to the chart.....

The Top Ten - week ending 13 August 2016

Welcome back, my fellow loungers! I hope you are enjoying a warm, sunny Summer day wherever you are in the world...er, except Australia, right? It's winter down under.

Whatever the weather, we all know that Summer is a state of mind as well, and we all go there, no matter the weather outside, to that beach in our mind via the music we listen to.

Lots happening this week as two new singles were released, and picked up for play here at This is Lounge.

The Cooltrane Quartet, featuring Karen Souza, just released a new album of cool covers, entitled In a Jazzy Mood. For those of you into jazz arrangements of classic pop hits, you'll love this. The latest single release, Moves Like Jagger, grabs a space in the Bubbling Under section.

Also releasing a new single this week, at the other end of the musical spectrum, but still in line with the station's content, is Massive Attack. These Brits from Bristol have been chilling with their brand of dark and alternative trip hop since 1987. This week sees the release of The Spoils, with guest vocals from Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star.

Both are welcome additions to the mix here, so tune in and enjoy.

Speaking of enjoying, Steve Miller of Afterlife will be enjoying his spot atop the chart this week, as Luederwaldt slips to number two. Emapea's Baby Mind rounds out the top three for supremacy. As Birth of the Fool slips this week, we see chillout master, Peter Pearson return to the chart with a lovely new piece, culled from the Bubbling Under's. Special mention regarding Cantoma - two songs on the chart remain this week! Your votes are keeping them alive. Yahoo!

Thanks for tuning in, everyone! I am grateful, knowing that This is Lounge is a welcome choice amongst all the alternative internet music options out there today. As always, please support the artists we play with a download from their sites or a respected digital retailer.

And don't forget to head on over to the This Is Lounge website to cast your vote for your fave Top ten/ Bubbling Under track. Your votes help in programming the music! How cool is that?

Enough chatter. Let's see the chart!

Enjoy!

The Top Ten - week ending 6 August 2016

"we're havin' a heatwave....a tropical heatwave..."

Yes, Toronto is having a heatwave, with humidex readings making it feel in the high 30's! Whew! And just yesterday it was noted that Montego Bay, Jamaica was 25 and raining.

With lots of cool drinks and even cooler music, I hope cooler heads are prevailing, not letting the heat get to you.

August is the month of European vacations, so I hope everyone is enjoying the time off over there, and chilling to the sounds of This is Lounge, of course!

Don't forget, while you're lounging poolside, taking advantage of the wi-fi, checking your Facebook, why not cruise on over to This is Lounge via iTunes Radio, or better still - through www.thisislounge.com, and vote for your favourite Top Ten track, while you're at it.

Speaking of Top Ten, let's get down to business and check out the latest.

Well, congrats to Luederwaldt for finally reaching Number one. With so many votes, it was a clear choice. (SEE? You really can make a difference! Be sure to vote.)

Steve Miller's Afterlife project comes in at number three, with Papik jumping ahead to number two. The other chill faves, Cantoma, continue to ride high with their pair of tracks from their latest release.

Making the leap from Bubbling Under this week, is the jazz sounds of Myriad3, with their track, Ameliasburg. Nice to see some jazz moving up. I hope you're enjoying it.

Hey, just a reminder, don't forget to tune in tonight (Saturday) at 6:00 PM Eastern Time when Koop Kooper's Cocktail Nation Sneak Preview kicks off the evening of More Than Just Lounge.

Your support of the station and the artists is exemplary! In this streaming world of Apple Music and Spotify playlists, it's nice that you can think of us, too.

Thanks, and have a chilled weekend!
