This is Lounge Goes Silent

Hello fellow loungers!

The moment is almost nigh, as I prepare to say goodbye to This is Lounge, as it goes off the air.

Come January 1st (as far as I know), host Radionomy will turn us off.

If you are not aware, Radionomy was bought out/ merged with Shoutcast. Not only did that mean an expensive monthly fee, but I would also have to pay the licensing fees (which have been covered by Radionomy up until now). It became a case of not really justifying the costs.

Its been a wonderful 5+ years on the air. I'm going to miss it as much as a lot of you will.

I must send out a big thank you to Guido Van Der Meulen, Koop Kooper, Phigroa, Stephanie Sante, Vitty Masciale, Anne-Liisis Vahtra, Michael Maretimo, and many more who inspired me and helped make the station the success that it was.

I should also mention that you never know what the future may bring. I could return, streaming from another host. In the meantime, I plan to take a break, and enjoy the many Facebook posts from everyone.

Thank you for listening, Happy New Year, and.....

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 21 December 2019

Welcome to the weekend!

I'm sure you're feeling that the weekend is just not long enough to get it all in - shopping, parties.....wrapping! Well, hopefully, you're one of those people that started their shopping early, and you are now pretty much done! If that's the case, then sit back and enjoy your weekend! For the rest of you..... don't forget to take some time for yourself to "recharge" a little.

As the days wind down till the end of the station, I'm beginning to feel a little sad. But there are so many of you out there producing playlists and mixes that I will never be without this relaxing genre of music.

And who knows? Perhaps I will bring the station back at sometime in the future. Until then, though, I will take a bit of a break from broadcasting for a while.

Until the end, though, please continue to enjoy This is Lounge. The final Top Ten will be next Saturday, so don't forget to check it out one last time!

So, until next time,

Stay chilled,

The Top Ten - week ending 14 December 2019

Ho ho ho! Welcome to the weekend!

With Christmas shopping in full swing, I'm sure that we're all trying to get it all done before the big man comes to town!

Just be sure to take a rest every once in a while. A cup of hot cocoa or cider, along with some soothing music. Of course, there's no place better for that than This is Lounge!

And with our new Top Ten, you'll probably be hearing your faves a few more times in the day. That certainly goes for Peter Pearson's Love by Moonlight, as it jumps into the number one spot this week!

Irina holds the number two spot, followed by Giacomo Bondi's Caipirinha which rounds out the top three.

As Japanese Breakfast slips below the tenth position, Bubbling Under's Cigarettes After Sex sneaks into the tenth spot to fill the vacancy.

A big thank you to all for your support. With less than three weeks before the station falls silent, I appreciate everyone who has tuned in. I should say that there may be a rebirth of This is Lounge in the future sometime......never say never, right?  Anyway, your support of the artists is the reason for the station, and that's the nicest Christmas present I could receive.

So, until next weekend,

Stay chilled.

Cocktail Nation Twilight Best of the Best 2013

Tune in Saturday night at 18:00 EST Toronto time (6:00 pm) for a Sneak Preview of the week's show. Shake that martini, and relax in your bachelor pad, as Koop Kooper takes us on a musical journey through that Exotica and Tiki world of the 50's and 60's.

While Koop takes his annual sabbatical to the beach, we're looking back at some of the highlights from past years. Enjoy these blasts from the pasts.

This week, we look back at the year 2013. Let's listen to what Koop was giving us six years ago!

What a year it had been here at the Cocktail Nation with the show being added to more and more stations across the globe....look out Ryan Seacrest, I'm coming to get you. The podcast          was enhanced, we got a new website and I bought a 1964 Austin Healey! But, of course, the show needs great guests and great music and we have had plenty of that. Each year I like to highlight the best of the best of the year and that's sometimes difficult in a one hour show. So, for you some of the most stand out releases of the last twelve months of 2013.

Mr Ho’s Orchestrotica - Chiseling Music
O Som Do Jazz - Sambou Sambou
Metropole Orchestra - My Blue Heaven
Ixtahuele Stone - Gods Of Bimini
Codename Carter - Stealth Palmer
Aaron Diehl - The Cylinder
Molly Ringwald - Don’t You Forget About Me
Narco Lounge Combo - Caravan
Laura Ainsworth - Necessary Evil
Tiki Delights - Twist Of Lyman

The Top Ten - week ending 7 December 2019

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...."

As the song implies, the snow is falling, along with the temperature, but it looks and feels a lot like Christmas! Hope you all have most of your shopping done! I, sadly, have barely made a dent! This weekend I battle the crowds to cross off a few names on my list.

Upon my return, a nice warm cup of cocoa and some warm sounds of  This is Lounge. Let's all enjoy it while we can, until the end of the year. Enough sadness, lets check out this week's Top Ten!

Irina's beautiful song...... well, er - Beautiful jumps into number one this week! Congrats Irina! That knocks Living Room's Amber down to number two, followed by Peter Pearson's Love by Moonlight moving up to number three.

A noticeable jump this week for Sazetrax, as Dozing Off leapfrogs to number seven! Great track! Thanks for the votes, everyone!

Don't forget that music makes a wonderful Christmas gift. A CD from anyone of the This is Lounge artists would be most welcome, I'm sure.....something to consider!

That being said, a heartfelt thank you for supporting the artists. It is truly appreciated.

So until next week....

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 30 November 2019

Welcome back, my fellow loungers!

It's Saturday once again!

As stated last week, the station will unfortunately close down after December 31. But for the final month, let's enjoy the seasonal songs being added to the playlist. I thank you all for listening and supporting the station. I urge you to please continue to support the artists, especially with downloads, since streaming pays very little.

The chart this week has been pretty active. We have a new number one this week, as Living Room tops the chart with their single, Amber. Giacomo Bondi slips to number two, and Irina stays put at number three.

Nice to see newcomer Kainbeats move up the chart. Please be sure to check out his Soundcloud page  for some more wonderful tracks.

You may also want to check out Sazetrax's Soundcloud page, as well. He makes the jump this week from Bubbling Under, with his track, Dozing Off.

Well, enjoy your Christmas shopping, and remember, music always makes the perfect gift.

Until next week,

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 23 November 2019

Welcome back, my fellow loungers!

First off, the bad news. I was notified yesterday by email from Radionomy (the TIL host) that they are merging with Shoutcast, beginning January 1, 2020. Unfortunately, that means there will be a monthly cost that I can't honestly agree to pay, given the size of my listenership. So, as a sad Christmas present, this means that This is Lounge will go off the air on New Years Eve! We had a good run.  Thank you to all of you listeners.

As the end of the month quickly approaches, Christmas shopping has already started for most you. (There's always the last-minute shopper....) As usual, the programming here at This is Lounge takes on a more festive mood beginning December 1st. With many stores and stations, it seems that Christmas songs are heard the day after Halloween!!  Crass consumerism, right?

Anyway, I'm sure that you're all looking forward to those seasonal songs mixed into the jazz and chill. I know we are here at the station.

Getting to this week's Top Ten, it looks like Giacomo Bondi has maintained his position atop the chart. Irina has moved into the second position, as Pekter drops to third. Nice to see Peter Pearson move up to the fifth position.

You may have noticed a new Citrus Jam track playing. A Retrologic Dream (33 years back mix) was recently added to the playlist, and has been getting some positive vibes. I hope you like it!

Well, enjoy your Christmas shopping, and don't get too flustered with the crowds, the lack of parking, or just being a general "humbug". Take a deep breath close your eyes.....and plug in your ear buds and tune us in. The stress will dissipate!

Have a great week, everyone! And, as always....

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 16 November 2019

Happy Saturday!

After suffering through an unseasonable snowstorm earlier this week, we are still living with the remains of that surprise from the skies. My goodness, the leaves haven't even finished falling off the trees yet!!

That being said, I must admit to a little heartwarming Winter feeling: enjoying a nice cup of hot cocoa and chilling to This is Lounge, after a half hour of shoveling the white stuff....very nice.

I hope wherever you are the Autumn season is still bringing a light chill to your air.

Anyway, on to another kind of chill....our chilled out Top Ten!

Congratulations to Giacomo Bondi, as he take the number one spot from Pekter this week! We could all use a little Brasilian bossa to warm us up, and it looks like everyone was thinking the same thing when they cast their votes,

We also have a new entry in the Top Ten, as Soundcloud discovery, Kainbeats joins the fray with his chillhop sounds. If you are a regular listener, I'm sure that you've heard a couple of other tracks from him. Check out his Soundcloud page for some more interesting sounds.

As always, thanks again for your support - for the artists and the station. The more your keep listening and the more you keep buying our artists' music, we will continue to stay on air. So, until next week....

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 9 November 2019

Saturday is finally here!

Welcome to the weekly Top Ten!

Let's get right to it! It looks like newcomer Pekter has become a real fave, as he remains atop the chart. I think that Spanish-style guitar touches everyone.

Giacomo Bondi's Brasilian-style Caipirinha has also touched a few hearts, as he makes his way into number two this week.

Living Room has been moving up, as has Peter Pearson's Love By Moonlight, making the leap from Bubbling Under to the number nine position.

Thank you to everyone who has voted and supported the artists. I urge you to take advantage of the links on each track that will enable you to seek out how to purchase that track, and perhaps others.

Also, a big thanks for supporting the station.

Till next week,

The Top Ten - week ending 2 November 2019

Happy Saturday, my fellow loungers!

I hope you all had a Happy Halloween! It's so much fun seeing the children get all dressed up! Unfortunately, we had a cold, windy, rainy night for trick-or-treating.....then again, what a perfect atmosphere for scary situations! Ha!

Now that things are back to normal, (and you've gotten rid of all those pumpkins) it's time to relax in front of a warm fire, enjoying a cup of hot cocoa, and listening to This is Lounge.

Time to take a minute and vote for your favourite Top Ten track at the website. We're waiting for your votes! It's always nice to see how we here at the station compare with your choices.

But no matter the choice, the winners are always you the listeners, and the artists that make the music. Thank you so much for their support.

Until next week,

Stay chilled.
