The Top Ten - week ending 30 September 2017

Welcome back, my fellow loungers!

Has the Summer heat finally dissipated from where you are? Perhaps, unless you are one of those lucky listeners in Australia just getting ready for your Summer to begin.

As we continue to be your soundtrack to the sun, let me welcome any new listeners that are just beginning to tune in. I urge you to visit our website at www.thisislounge.com and cast your vote for your favourite Top Ten track.

As you may have noticed "lounge" encompasses many things. Our new number one this week is alternative artist Lana Del Rey, with a track from her new album. Phigroa, in number two, is a chilled jazz musician. Cigarettes After Sex, at number three, is considered an ambient pop group. They are from diverse genres but they all blend together here to give a smooth, chilled vibe along with the rest of the artists we play. It's not all chill. It's not all jazz. It's our kind of lounge, and I'm so glad that you're enjoying the mix.

New releases include Charlotte Gainsbourg's title track from her upcoming album, the classic chill of Polished Chrome, the jazzy, swing pop of Matt Bianco, the chillhop vibe of Halberd, the hardcore jazz of Hudson, and a chillout remix from alt-rockers Portugal, The Man.

Thanks for listening and supporting the station and the variety of artists we play. It is very much appreciated.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 23 September 2017

Welcome to the weekend!

The workweek is done. If the weather is still warm, I hope that you are enjoying it a little bit longer before the chill comes in.

Instead, enjoy the chill right here. Put another umbrella on that drink, or another lime in that cerveza, and turn on the relaxing sounds here at This is Lounge.

What a week it's been! Phigroa continues his reign atop the chart with Polished Chrome staying up there behind him in the second position. Halberd won't take his descent too quickly, sticking it out at number three.

Matt Bianco makes the leap this week, garnered by more than a few votes. The touching and torchy jazz track, Heart In Chains, begins it's homestead with a great start at number eight.

French actress and songstress, Charlotte Gainsbourg, is bubbling under this week as the early release single, Rest, from her new album of the same name joins the mix.

All in all, a great sounding Top Ten. And thanks to listeners like you who have taken the time on your phones, or laptops, or even desktops to cast your vote at the website. You're helping the chart stay alive.

Thanks for the support of the station and the artists. Your donations and purchases through your favourite download site keeps the music playing. It is truly appreciated.

Have a great weekend, and....

Stay chilled.

There's news on an electric E-type Jag, plus an abandoned Sixties satellite which started transmitting decades later. The Top Ten - week ending 16 September 2017

Welcome to the weekend!

Ah, it's so good to get away from that workweek stress and decompress a little for a couple of days. And that's what This is Lounge is for - we're part of that decompression plan. Tune in, turn on, chill out.

What a week it's been here at the station. If you've been listening, you would have heard the sneak preview release of Charlotte Gainsbourg's ambient pop piece called, appropriately enough, Rest, from her forthcoming album of the same name, due for release in November. Great track.

As mentioned last week, Matt Bianco has a new release as well, of which you've been enjoying Heart in Chains. Plus, a Leonard Cohen cover from Bria Skonberg, and another short piece from indie chillhop artist .anxious..

Speaking of chillhop artists, Halberd has been overthrown from number one by chillout jazz guitarist Phigroa, as Floating moves into the top spot this week. Polished Chrome inches up a little, as does Lana Del Rey and Christopher Goze.....chillout artists are gaining ground! Thanks for voting!

As usual, a heartfelt thanks for tuning in, supporting, and spreading the word about This is Lounge. There are more of you listening AND listening longer. So, thank you so much.

Don't forget to head over to www.thisislounge.com and vote for your fave Top Ten track.

Enjoy your weekend.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 9 September 2017

So glad you came back this weekend, fellow loungers. Let me get you a glass of wine and a chair closer to the sun and the speakers and tune into the year-round sounds of Summer, here at This is Lounge.

Yes, the temperatures have dipped below the 25 degree mark (here, anyway), a sure sign that the leaves will be changing colour soon. But not to fret....close your eyes and relax. Chill is a state of mind.

Before I begin,  from all of us here at the station, our prayers are with those in Florida in the path of Hurricane Irma. From FLA DJ Mark Gorbulew's Facebook posts, he's on his way to safety, amongst the thousands of others.

Now to the chart.....

Well, Halberd has managed to stick it out on top, albeit by a narrow margin, with Phigroa's Floating just out of reach landing in the second position. Hudson stay locked at number three, with Polished Chrome following close behind.

Cigarettes After Sex make the jump from Bubbling Under, and today marks the release of the new Matt Bianco album, Gravity. Tune in as we begin playing Heart in Chains from it. It's a more torchy jazz album than the swing pop stylings of the past. I think you'll enjoy it. Check out the rest of the album at your favorite download store.

We continue to add new music as often as possible. Thanks for tuning in, and thanks for the support of the station and the artists.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 2 September 2017

Welcome back, my fellow loungers!

The weekend is once again upon us, as we squeeze a little more "me time" into our lives. If you are in Canada or the US, it's a long weekend for us. Sadly, Labour Day weekend spells the end of Summer. Hopefully, the weather will remain warm for a few more weeks.

Speaking of weather, I must say that our prayers are with the people of Texas who are experiencing unprecedented rainfall and flooding. As the storm passes, the inevitable recovery begins.

On to the music now, as a few things have happened this week.

First, and foremost, our listenership has increased, along with listening time. Not only is word of mouth spreading, but you are all listening longer. Thanks so much for your support.

As for the chart this week, Seneca B's number one position has been usurped by our other Chillhop artist on the chart - Halberd. Coffee on the Beach has really made an impression on you all.

Christopher Goze bounds into the fray from Bubbling Under with his sentimental chill single, I Will Always Love You. The ambient pop of Cigarettes After Sex adds a little ambient alternative sound to the mix. I'm sure that they'll be up in "the 10" in no time.

So, once again, thank you for listening, and following these blog entries. Your support is truly appreciated. Be sure to check out the website at www.thisislounge.com and vote for your fave Top Ten track.

Stay chilled.
