The Top Ten - week ending 29 July 2017

Happy Saturday!!

The weekend is finally upon us. It's also the end of the month. To all of you working in an office and scrambling to finish your "month-end", take this time for a breather. Enjoy a beach...a park...a backyard patio. Wherever you can find a peaceful space. You'll be all refreshed for the last day of the month on Monday!

As we prepare for what is typically the hottest month in many parts of Europe, and many other parts of the world for that matter, don't forget to stay chilled and hydrated.

Congrats to Portugal, The Man for retaining the number one position this week! Alex Cortiz and Bria Skonberg continue to swap positions, as these top three songs vie for the songs of the Summer 2017!

The three John's (DeJohnette, Medeski, and Scofield) along with bassist Larry Grenadier, collectively known as Hudson, settle in nicely into fourth with their cover of Woodstock

Sambox remains in the middle of the pack, continuing his position in the playlist rotation. Lofi/chillhop artist, halberd, continues to make fans as his shy request for Coffee On The Beach touches the hearts of all of you.

Phigroa makes the jump from Bubbling Under with another track from his wonderful Easy Does It EP.

We all have a soft spot for Lana Del Rey here, so you just know that we had to decide on a track to play from her new album. That being said, we have settled on Heroin, an interesting track no less. What do you think? Let me know.

If you have any comments, please pass them along through the website at www.thisislounge.com - even if it's just to say "hi" and tell me where you're listening from. Music is universal, and it's a delight when I hear someone across the world share in the choices played on the station.

Thanks for supporting the station and the artists. By the way, stay tuned for some Summer swag to be announced soon.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 22 July 2017

Happy Saturday!

Is it hot enough for you, wherever you are?

Our season is in full swing, and we're all taking full advantage of it. The bodies of water that surround us are the refuge from the hsutle and bustle of the cityscape. We welcome it's calming effect on our minds. Experience the Zen. Experience the chill.

It's the weekend - time to relax.

Music, of course, plays a big part in relaxation. Taking This is Lounge with you (if you have a wifi or internet access at your beach house) is part of all that.

With artists like Alex CortizStephanie Sante, Michael e, and Phigroa, you're sure to experience your body releasing all the tensions of the work week. So sit back, relax, and tune in.

Congratulations to Portugal, The Man for a second week at number one. The pop/jazz sound of  Bria Skonberg comes in behind at number two, and the Dutch Master, Alex Cortiz, remains in the top three with Zooming In. Sambox continues to maintain his chart position at number four.

You may have noticed a new Phigroa track thrown in the mix this week. Revisiting his latest EP, Easy Does It, we explore Track 2 from that release - Floating. This week, it's Bubbling Under.

Thanks for all the support. The station and the artists are truly grateful. Keep the music alive!  Thanks for all your heartfelt comments at www.thisislounge.com, as well.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 15 July 2017

Happy Saturday!

I hope everyone is enjoying their Summer. So much to do outside....who wants to be stuck inside listening to internet radio? I know...I know.... Well, if you're like me, you bring the indoors out, along with a good wireless Bluetooth speaker. (Warning! Shameless plug coming...) Personally, I have this great little Bose SoundLink that is perfect on the patio. But check out some others available.

When your walking the city, there should be numerous free wifi locations that you can take advantage of. Keep an eye out for that.  A welcome coffee at a cafe with wifi will be that much more relaxing with your ears tuned into This is Lounge on your fave radio app. (One of the ones I use is radio.net's, available in the App Store.......sorry, another shameless plug.)

Now, on to the content....

What a week for music! Congrats to Portugal, The Man's remix of Feel It Still for topping the chart this week. Alex Cortiz slips into number two, and (surprise, surprise!) Bria Skonberg's cheeery love song, How I Know, has become the fan fun fave of the Summertime sounds, shooting up to number three! It must be the heat! So, a little something there for everyone.

I must also point out that Sambox continues to maintain his place on the chart, with Jasmin Sambac! Thanks to your votes at www.thisislounge.com, your input helps determine the chart. Keep those votes coming.

We have a new entry making the leap from Bubbling Under this week - Soundcloud find, .anxious., comes in at number nine, with his chillhop/lofi track Cross Counter TV.

Speaking of Soundcloud, if you've not heard the news, their life may be ending soon, as they are losing money and may be down within the next three months or so. Let's hope they can get things together, along with an infusion of cash, to keep things going.

Anway, on to the music. Thanks for all your support. Once again, a shoutout to Phigroa who has been a "champion of the cause", spreading the word about This is Lounge. I am so grateful.

Tune in and see what all the fuss is about!

Stay chilled.

Saturday Nights! More Than Just Lounge

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to make everyone aware of this block of programming that is quietly gaining listenership, and becoming one of my most popular shows.

My original intention was to make Saturday programming a little more upbeat, a little more different, and eclectic, and it seems to have really caught on with people. Certainly a change from your fave Saturday Night 80's station, it's a different kind of party - there's chill with a beat, some electro swing, a smattering of jazzy house, .....and even the odd classic rock tune thrown in! A mishmash of things that works! Consequently, I have my largest playlist to draw from on Saturday night. which helps keep it fresh each week.

Normally, the fun begins with the Cocktail Nation Sneak Preview at 6:00 PM (18:00h) EST (Toronto). (Currently we're on Daylight Savings Time, so we're an hour ahead. Check your time on a World Clock app).

With Koop Kooper on vacation, his shows are on hiatus until next week, I believe. So tomorrow, the music starts at 6:00. With the programming block going right through to 5:00 AM EST on Sunday morning, it may or may not be nightime where you are when tuning in. I hope you enjoy it no matter the time.

Then, at 5:00 AM EST, it's a complete slow down as we segue into what I call "The Hangover Show". After all that Saturday night fun, and you're just waking up, tune in for a relaxing all-chillout show.

So, if you've only been listening to the station weekdays at work, take us along for the weekend! You might be plesantly surprised.

Toronto, New York, Miami, Nassau, Rio de Janeiro
18:00 - 05:00

London, Lisbon
23:00 - 10:00

Stockholm, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Madrid, Ibiza, Prague, Monaco, Amsterdam

The Top Ten - week ending 8 July 2017

Welcome to this week's Top Ten!

I hope everyone's enjoying their summer. That's no reason to ignore the sounds of Summer on the radio...internet radio, that is - right here at This is Lounge

That backyard patio cocktail party? On the patio of that café you run? Or just over the wifi, reelaxing and sunning yourself. We're here for your listening pleasure.

Thanks for spreading the word - listenership is up. Shout outs to Phigroa and UK friend, Darren Pearson for retweeting these on Twitter, and getting the word out. There is so much music and shows and mixes out there, thanks for coming back to our little corner of the beach for a bit.

Anyway, back to the music....

Congrats to Alex Cortiz for reaching the summit this week, as he moves into the top position. Stephanie Sante and Portugal, The Man are right behind him. Jazzy James Jr. may have dropped, but he is still high in the rotation, so keep it tuned into This is Lounge.

Nice to see everyone taking advantage of the Top Ten Poll now that its back up and running. A surge of votes for Sambox has given his track a rise in the standings. That's a perfect example of interactivity with the station. Be sure to cast your vote at the station website

As I still have some finishing touches on my landscaping project, I haven't had the time I wished to devote to the station.  Catching minutes here and there have given me some time. I can't wait until I can relax and enjoy my new outdoor space, and give you more of my time.

That being said, I anticipate some new music joining the fray very soon. In the meantime, I invite you to check out some of the new music that's bubbling under. This week, we had the jazz sounds of Hudson, and they're interpretation of  Joni Mitchell's Woodstock come in at number ten. Now, there's a Summer song filled with memories for many, I'm sure.

Thanks for all the support. Keep visiting the website, although I know it needs a little refresh. Thanks for making us a part of your Summer. Spread the word. We're here 24/7, with a mix of music you won't find anywhere else. Thank you for supporting the artists. Every dollar spent downloading their music goes back into helping the creative process.

Until next week...

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 1 July 2017

Welcome loungers!

No, you did not get directed to the wrong page. This IS The Top Ten, for the week (and day) ending July 1, 2017, a very special day here in Canada. Normally, this is a holiday celebrating our Confederation as a country.  Today, the country is celebrating it's 150th Birthday. I would certainly be remiss not to mention this, of a country I'm so proud to call home. (Cue flag waving)

Since the Canada Day holiday falls on a Saturday this year, Monday is declared a holiday, so we have a nice long weekend to celebrate, just before the U.S. celebrates their independence on the Fourth of July.

So, to all my fellow Canadians reading this - Let's party like it's 1867!!! ...and don't forget to chill. Enjoy Sunday morning's all-chillout programming (5:00am - 1:00pm EDT) to recuperate from that hangover. By the way, the Cocktail Nation is on vacation, so the regular programming will play on today.

Now, on to the chart!

Congrats this week to Jazzy James, Jr. who has climbed into number one this week. You "peeps" out there obviously love that jazz. Stephanie Sante doesn't lose too much ground, as she slips to number two, followed by Alex Cortiz in third.

Portugal, The Man's remix jumps leaps and bounds to number four this week, almost tracking the original in it's Pop chart ascension.

This week, we see Chillhop artist Seneca B, with her lovely Angels track, make the transition from Bubbling Under to number ten on the chart.

If you like Seneca or any of the other Top Ten artists, please go to the website and vote for your favourite. Now that the poll is back up and running, you have no excuses not to check it out!!!!!

Which reminds me, thank you so much for your support and your kind comments. I like to think that the station is only as good as the artists I play and support. Enjoy your weekend, wherever you are, and maybe raise one for Canada.

Stay chilled.
