The Top Ten - week ending 24 June 2017

Welcome loungers. I hope you took advantage of the Summer Solstice, and the long, later sunset. It is now our time of the season. Enjoy.

First off, I have to apologize for not fixing the voting poll on the website. I have been strapped for time and it is something I really need to work on. Thanks for the understanding. Send me a vote through the Comments, if you like.

Congrats this week to Stephanie Sante for reaching the top this week. Her position is well deserved with such a great track as Can You Hear Me. Alex Cortiz zooms right in behind to the second spot, as Jazzy James, Jr. follows up in third.

Chaotix gets some movement this week, along with Portugal, The Man's remix of Feel It Still.

As the others slide up and down, holding on for some spot on the chart, Bria Skonberg's How I Know brings a bouncy vibe in at number ten. Reminiscent of early De-Phazz and Jojo Effect, this Canadian trumpeter/vocalist brings a fun vibe to the station sound. I hope you all enjoy her.

We have lots of new chillhop tracks bubbling under still, waiting to make the leap to the Top Ten. So tune in and enjoy.

Thanks to all of you for support. Please use the links to follow up for purchasing.

Enjoy your weekend!

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 17 June 2017

Happy Saturday, my fellow loungers!

The sun is shining. The temperature is getting hot!

I'd say it's time to chill!

Thank you all so much for checking in this, and every week. Its nice to know this music has a great audience.

So he spoke and you listened! Jazzy James Jr. submitted "a little jazz for his peeps" and you responded...and we here at the station did as well. Sugar and Spice has shot to number one this week! Congrats to James

As DJ Maretimo slips to number three, that woman of chilled jazz, Stephanie Sante, slides in ahead of him to the number two spot! Congrats Stephanie!

Also notable is the meteoric rise of Alex Cortiz's Zooming In, as it positions itself at numnber four. There's a fan base of his here at the station as well as out there that keeps him moving up.

Got some new music in this week, surprisingly from three jazzhop/chillhop artists that are helping to promote this creative new subgenre of hip hop. I've always thought that the turntablists who create the melody for rap artists to spread their words over could very well break out on their own. Described in an oxymoronic way as "instrumental rap", they're sampled jazz and easy listening sounds could easily have an audience with us loungers. Listen with open ears and see if you can't appreciate the street melodies of these creative DJ's.

I must give a shoutout to my good friend in Prague, Vitty Masciale, who has joined me in seeking out some of these artists, including C Y G N & Sophie Meiers. Please tune in and listen for some wonderful new sounds, combining sampled jazz and chillout as well as film dialogue. Check out the San Francisco artist known only as .anxious.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone! Thanks for the support! Thanks for your comments, like Niko from Greece, who listens on the Radio Planet page. Always great to hear from you.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 10 June 2017

Hello fellow loungers!

Hope it feels like Summer in your part of the world. Attended the Opening Night Gala of the ICFF Italian Film Festival on Thursday night. Great kickoff event! Ran into Daniela Nardi, whom you hear on the station. Being Italian and a fan of Italian films, she was just as excited as I was to be there. I must also give a shoutout to my "companion" that night, Cheri Passell (I Love Italian Movies), who had just flown in from NYC after attending their Open Doors festival. It was a beautiful warm night and we had a great time. Thanks Cheri!

I even managed to explore some new music this week, getting into some chillhop/jazzhop, an inspired injection of new creativity into two musical genres......and what is Summer without a version of Joni Mitchell's Woodstock! Tune in to hear it all, along with your favourites.

DJ Maretimo remains atop of the chart with The Midnight Hour.  Jazzy James Jr.  continues to give "a little jazz to his peeps" from the second spot, while the chillout/jazz blend of Stephanie Sante sees her rise to the third position.

As mentioned above, some new music has been added to the playlist. You've probably heard that chillout remix of Portugal, The Man's current hit, Feel It Still, a great song with a 60's vibe to it in it's own right! Enjoy the chilled version right here!

Soundcloud discovery, Seneca B, proves that a woman can be just as creative when it comes to Hop - Jazzed or Chilled. If you've been getting into the Chillhop sound, take the time to check her out.

Canadian jazz songstress/ trumpeter, Bria Skonberg, gives us something a little more Summer-y and cheery to match the weather. She also does a very chilled version of Leonard Cohen's Dance Me To The End of Love on her latest album. That should be coming soon to the station's sounds!

Last, but not least is a new jazz release of a combo featuring Jack DeJohnette, Larry Grenadier, John Medeski & John Scofield, collectively known as Hudson. Amongst some other creative covers, they take on the classic Woodstock. It's a little different sound for the station, but I think the memories that the song will give everyone will leave a smile as they listen.

Thanks for tuning in and supporting the artists and the station. Be sure to share! Word of mouth from fans like you are truly appreciated. Love to see listenership grow.

Have a great weekend.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 3 June 2017

Welcome back, my fellow loungers!

I have to apologize for not posting more diversified blog pieces. It seems that I am only putting up the Top Ten and the Cocktail Nation. The truth is, I barely have time to get those together on time. I don't know how many of you can put together new mixes and podcasts each week. My hat goes off to you!

As I continue to work on my backyard oasis, I have decided to take a bit of a break, as I accompany Cheri Passell of the I Love Italian Movies blog to the Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) Opening Night Gala here in Toronto next week. She is coming directly from NYC's Open Roads festival which features many of the same films. As she can only spend the one night, I plan to welcome her to our beautiful city in style. Hopefully, she can return with her family another time.

But, I digress.....

Music is what we are here about, and the Top Ten in particular. This week, we have a new number one - DJ Maretimo and Vladi Strecker! Congratulations! Riccardo slips into number two, with Jazzy James Jr. closing in at third.

As we see the bottom half of the chart move around, Alex Cortiz makes the jump from Bubbling Under with Zooming In

Speaking of Bubbling Under, you may have recognized a chilled out mix of Portugal, The Man's chart topper, Feel It Still. Based out of Dallas, Texas, Medasin's remix has been officially released as a single by the band.

Thanks for listening.....oh! In case you hadn't noticed, I'm having some technical issues on the website with the song poll. But if you wish to cast a vote, send it through the Comments at the bottom of the page until I can get it back to normal.

Thanks for the support. Spread the word.

Stay chilled.
