The Top Ten - week ending 01-16-2015

I'm a couple of days late getting this, but lots happening.
On Friday morning Pitchfork broke the story of Frank Ocean's cover of the Isley Brothers song, "At Your Best" for Aaliyah, in honour of what would have been her 36th birthday. It's such a beautiful rendition, I just had to see it join the playlist. To make last minute room, I decide to create a "Bubbling Under" category, a holding place for songs about to join the Top Ten. As we patiently await new material from Frank, this is a surprisingly nice song to hold us over.
Not too many other surprises. Mr. Cortiz remains seated atop the list. Everyone else shifts around a bit.

1. Alex Cortiz - Muerte de un Torero
2. Karen Souza - Wicked Game
3.. Alex Cortiz - B Chill
4. Royksopp - Coup De Grace
5. Jojo Effect - That’s What You Get
6. Peter Pearson - Yesterday’s Dreams
7. SINE - Wolke 7
8. Molly Johnson - Don’t Explain
9. Sven Van Hees - Sulco Brasilier
10. Irregular Expression - Setsuko

Bubbling Under:
Frank Ocean - At Your Best (You Are Love)
Pablo Nouvelle - Best Thing (feat. Norma Jean Martine)
Rafael Lukjanik - Red

The Top Ten - week ending 01-09-2015

Happy New Year from The Top Ten list!

The buzz of Christmas and New Years eve and the glut of seasonal tunes has finally abated and we can return to our "regular scheduled programming".
Not much change in the list the week, although a new track from Sven Van Hees 2014 release, Beach Bliss, sneaks in at number 10. A swinging Brazilian style, Sulco Braziliero has Sven digging through those jazz crates.

Espresso Manifesto - Don't Break My Heart

A big shoutout to Daniela Nardi, who has graciously given her approval to add this, and possibly some of her other tracks, to the This is Lounge playlist.

A major fan of Italian singer Paolo Conte, Daniela and her Espresso Manifesto group lovingly recorded a tribute album back in the summer of 2012.

As much as I would love to wax poetic on all that is Daniela Nardi, let me just say that if you like the above song, please visit her wonderfully detailed website and her equally wonderful Facebook page.

The Top Ten - week ending -1/02/2015

Happy New Year from The Top Ten!
Wow! A few things happened over the holidays. Apologies for not posting a list last week, since the holidays took up a lot of my time.
Anyway, let's get to it. Alex Cortiz is unbeatable at the top of the chart. Not only that, but his other track, Muerte de un Torero has moved up right behind it in the second pole position.
Jojo Effect jump back into the mix with another track from Smarter, called That's What You Got. That album is moving like gangbusters in Europe.
Canadian chanteuse, Molly Johnson, also adds another track, Don't Explain, in at number 9, from her Because of Billie album. "Ms. Day" would be proud.

Happy New Year !

This is Lounge would like to extend a heartfelt Happy New Year to all of you that have supported the station and this blog. Looking forward to 2015, as listenership grows.

Thanks to those who "bought me a drink" by clicking on the Donate button to the right. I am truly appreciative and look forward to further support. The station does not run ads or nagging sound bytes, like a Live 365 station. Nor are there intrusive Public Service Announcements. So, please consider a monetary donation this year - monthly, annually, or a one-time donation. It all helps to keep the music coming, affording new music to be added to the playlist.

A big thank you to Guido of Guido's Lounge Cafe, and Koop Kooper for his wonderful retro jazz show, the Cocktail Nation. And to all the musicians that have graciously given me permission to play their music. I have met some wonderful artists from around the globe.

Thanks for the support and passing the word about the station. I need you listeners to stay on the air. My goal this year is to to be able to have the station listed on iTunes Radio, but I need a certain listenership level. The world has begun tuning in. Thanks for joining me on this wondrous ride, and for what's ahead.

Happy New Year 2015!
