The Top Ten - week ending 27 February 2016

Another weekend has finally arrived. Thanks to everyone who's stopped by our new website. I invite everyone to check it out. A great new feature is our Listener Poll, where you are invited to vote for your fave Top Ten track.  Yes, you can have a say in the Top Ten, all the while listening to This is Lounge live!

Apologies if my social media presence this week has been lacking. So much to do, so little time, as they say. But the stress always leads me back to the station, where relaxation is the number one priority.

The big news this week is the toppling of chill king, Michael e by the jazz queen, Diana Krall and her accomplice, Sarah McLachlan.

Jill Barber's Sukiyaki slides in at number three, ahead of Birth of The Fool's The Garden, as Pieces of A Dream drops down to the fifth position.

Nice to see the remix of Angelika Vee's cover of Adele's hit make a substantial move to number seven, leaving room for a couple of new Bubbling Under tracks to make their way into the Top Ten.

A welcome return by Peter Pearson to the Top Ten brings us a trés romantique track from his latest album. As Twilight Falls is dinner jazz at it's finest. Joining Peter is Corrado Saija, leapfrogging into the ninth position with the title track from his beautiful new album, Un Doux Sommeil, on Lemongrassmusic.

Newly added to Bubbling Under this week is a track from an artist that goes by the name ÖRDÖG. His jazzy little number, Nothing Compares... (no, it's not the Prince song) is a perfect fit here at This is Lounge. Tune in and enjoy.

As always, puleeeeze support these, and all of our artists, by downloading through your favourite digital retailer.

A long time ago, a Lounge Lothario was in danger of imprisonment due to a “charge of Seduction”. Yes, it was a real thing, so this week on the show we talk about this very old law and name a famous singer who had this charge against him in the thirties. And speaking of seduction, all the songs chosen this week have a seductive theme or title.

Frank Sinatra - The Tender Trap
Narco Lounge Combo - The Seduction

The Top Ten - week ending 20 February 2016

What a week it's been here! Battling a cold while the temperatures drop to record lows....and then go to a record high today! Come on, Spring. You're only a month away! It can't come soon enough.

I also invite everyone reading this to visit the station's new website at www.thisislounge.com.

Congrats to Michael e, for once again maintaining his number one position on the chart this week. The big surprises this week are the sudden risings of Diana Krall & Sarah McLachlan and Pieces of A Dream.

We also welcome Angelika Vee and her chilled cover of Adele's latest big hit, Hello. Again, thanks to Guido's Lounge Cafe for bringing that to our ears.

Bubbling under this week, is a wonderful new song called Cologne from Phigroa and his friend, ArnoB (also known as Arno Behl). Their blend of chill and smooth jazz is a perfect fit here.

This week, you may have also heard the Buddha Bar-like sounds of Sanjay Chitale & Sandeep Chowta. The song, called Anu, is taken from their new album, American Pilgrimage. It's a cross-cultural collaboration of jazz and Indian melody, the fulfillment of a lifelong dream of recording with some of his jazz idols, including John Scofield, amongst others.

The Top Ten - week ending 13 February 2016

Brrrrr.....-32C with the windchill!!!!!

Toronto is in a temporary deep freeze. A good time to stay indoors and chill out to some relaxing sounds. (You just knew I was going to say that!)

The big news is, of course, Valentine's Day. That annual day set aside for romance. Here at This is Lounge, Sunday will be revered and remembered as an anniversary. I shall not say anymore, only that something new and exciting is happening on Sunday, so stay tuned to your social media and your email.

On to the Top Ten!

The highlight this week is, that once again, Michael e has risen to the top of the chart, sending last week's leader, Rob Tardik, down to number three. Jill Barber slides in between the two of them to rest comfortably at number two.

The rest of the group jostle for position as we see Quiet Nights Lounge hang on at number ten, as he drops from halfway.

Jacqui Naylor - Lose My Religion (live)

The Top Ten - week ending 6 February 2016

Wow! It's Saturday again, already? Time certainly flies when you're busy. Sadly, veteran musicians continue to join the big band in the sky, as Maurice White of Earth Wind & Fire passed away the week. Your rhythms will most certainly be missed. RIP Maurice.

(Psst! Pass the word.....If you are a regular listener and follower of this blog, stay tuned for some big news coming on the most romantic day of the year - Valentine's Day. You've been warned!)

Now, on to the music.

Congrats to Rob Tardik for finally knocking "The King" from his throne. Christophe Goze drops into number two as Eros slips into first. Coming up behind The Nightfly, Michael e checks in at number three with his beautiful piece, With Each Passing Moment.

Canadian pair, Diana Krall and Sarah McLachlan and their duet, makes some movement up as Marijan's reign slowly drops down to the ninth position. As we say goodbye to Matteo Brancaleoni las he leaves the Top Ten this week, Birth of The Fool makes the jump from Bubbling Under. with their track, The Garden.

Bubbling Under this week sees some great new music, as the cream rises to the top. Peter Pearson, from his November release, A Thousand Dreams,  joins the ranks with the exquisite As Twilight Falls. The album may not be that new, but we'll chalk it up to a new track from a current release.
Pop artists do it all the time!

Last week also saw a new release from Italian producer, Corrado Saija. A wonderful new collection, released on the Lemongrassmusic label, the title track was chosen by all of us here as the one to add to our playlist.  Be sure to check out the rest of this fresh release.

As you can see, our Bubbling Under list continues to expand. There is so much wonderful new music coming out. As always, please support these artists. For your convenience, links to iTunes or an alternate site, has been given to each track. But feel free to use the digital retailer of your choice. Thank you.
