The Top Ten - week ending 28 January 2017

Welcome back, my fellow loungers!

Tis the last weekend of January, as we kiss those "blahs" goodbye, and count down the eight or nine weeks until Spring! Already planning those outdoor activities?

As those hours of daylight continue to get longer, (if you get any daylight between the clouds) tune in and chill out any time here at This is Lounge. You're always welcome.

Notifications on the World Wide Web this week from London-based artist, Phil Mison, better known as Cantoma, announcing a new 12" EP entitled Talva Lumi on February 2. For a sneak preview and pre-order information, head on over to their website. New music from Cantoma is always exciting news.

Lemongrassmusic artist, Mirage of Deep, climb into the Top Ten this week with a beautiful piece entitled Romantic Fields, taken from their new release, Subliminal Perception.

The prolific artist that is Michael e continues to hold the top chart position with Beautiful, as fellow Chill artist, Pier-O, remains hot on his heels at number two. Both are well deserved of their positions.

I must say, the current popularity of the film La La Land, has really made an impact here. Your online votes at www.thisislounge.com has proven that City of Stars is not only popular, but downright  "brain sticking" - It continues to be stuck in my heard! The film's recent Oscar nominations, coupled with it's Golden Globe wins, (and possibly Screen Actor's Guild Awards wins tomorrow), makes this jazz-related musical one of the true Hollywood classics, alongside those that inspired it.

Again, thanks for tuning in. I certainly do appreciate the listenership, and the stats reveal an audience from around the world - Germany, Italy, Japan, Australia, Great Britain, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, and many more. This easy listening sound is truly universal, and I thank you for choosing (what I believe) is a unique playlist amongst the other Chill/Ambient genre stations.

As always, thanks for supprting the artists through their websites or an authorized download dealer. It keeps the music coming.

Now, on to the chart. Have a great weekend, everyone!

The Top Ten - week ending 21 January 2017

Welcome back on this glorious Saturday, my fellow loungers!

As we inch closer to that March date and the arrival of the new season, we are all there in the state of mind we carry around with us year-round.

Toronto is experiencing a mild spell right now, which comes at a cost - constant cloud. It has been so long since I have seen the sunshine! Hopefully, a break is coming soon.

In the meantime, I have the sounds of This is Lounge to keep me warm and sunny.

Congrats this week to Michael e for climbing to number one, knocking Norah Jones down a notch to her spot at number two. Rounding out the triumvirate is Pier-O and his relaxing Beach Waves track. This week also saw Kant Sleep's collab with Chaotix, Let It Drip, a beautiful piece of chill hop, make the leap from Bubbling Under.

Speaking of Bubbling Under, this week saw the release of a new album from Mirage of Deep, on Lemongrassmusic. Entitled Subliminal Perception, it is a beautiful collection of ambient and chill that is recommended to all. Lemongrassmusic continues to release top quality product from a great roster of artists. So, This is Lounge has chosen Romantic Fields to add to the playlist. Tune in and enjoy.

Please remember to scoot on over to www.thisislounge.com and cast a free and anonymous vote for your favourite Top Ten track. It's so easy! And your input will help with the outcome of the Top Ten.

Thanks for the support and tuning in. I know the world is full of Spotify and Apple Music, so I am thrilled that you all take a little or a lot of time to listen to the mix here at This is Lounge. Thanks for supporting the artists, through the provided links.

So, if you haven't skipped through all of this to get to the chart, here it is:

The Top Ten - week ending 14 January 2017

The weekend has arrived! And none too soon for most you, I'm sure.

I hope all of you in the Northern Hemisphere is keeping warm as we "round the turn" to Spring - Ten more weeks!!!!! I'm counting them down.

Click your way to our station's website, and scroll down to vote for your "Fave Top Ten Tracks". It only takes a second to check off a box, and it's completely anonymous. Your identification does not appear on any notifications. So feel free that you will not be put on any mailing list after submitting your vote.

Now, on the this week's chart, where the lovely Norah Jones climbs into the number one position with her track, Sleeping Wild, from her latest. Squeezing in behind her is Michael e and The Orb with their chilled ambient sounds. Relative newcomer to This is Lounge, Kant Sleep, drops down to number four, as his other track, Let It Drip, continues to grab more airtime, moving closer to attaining a place within the Top Ten.

I'm sure a lot of you tuned in to watch the Golden Globe awards last week, and witnessed not only Ms. Streep's interesting speech, but also the many awards given to the film La La Land including Best Song, for City of Stars.

Of course, as mentioned last week, prior to the awards, I noted that the song would soon be stuck in everyone's heads. Our addition of the "Humming", almost instrumental, version of the song has proven very popular around here..... and yes, it is stuck in all of our heads. It virtually leapt into eighth position from Bubbling Under!

So, please continue to listen in. With all the media sources available, I am so pleased that you choose to listen right here. Listenership continues to grow, through social media and word-of-mouth. Thank you so much.

And thank you for supporting the artists! Follow the links below to see how you can purchase their art.

The Top Ten - week ending 7 January 2017

Happy New Year, my fellow loungers!

No doubt that after all the festivities and revelry leading up to that famous Midnight hour, you all stepped back to chill out for a while. Perhaps you tuned into This is Lounge, or perhaps you simply slipped on that special piece of vinyl from your collection to put you and yours in a more relaxed mood.

Due to the festivities around here last week, the Top Ten was not posted. Apologies for those waiting to see, but hey, "all work and no play....."

Over the holidays saw some great new music added to the playlist. Pier-O's new release has really been getting under our skin here. So much so, that we decided to start playing a second track from his album, Passion. The same could also be said for Soundcloud discovery, Kant Sleep. Beautiful work from both artists.

Speaking of Kant Sleep, She's My Jazz rules the roost this week as it tops the chart for the first Top Ten of 2017. A greart start to the musical New Year! Congratulations!

Over the holidays, my friend Matt Smith, gave me a very special Christmas present - a new Birth of The Fool song! Skipping right past the Bubbling Under tracks, it immediately found placement in the Top Ten. I hope you've been enjoying the seductive Where Aare You Going? as much as we have, over the last week or so!

Listeners will have also noticed that with the worldwide success of the new film La la Land, the soundtrack and unforgettable "single" release, City of Stars, has been stuck in everyone's head. To be a little bit different, we decided to play the "Humming" version. Since everyone around here was caught "humming" the melody, it became infectious, leading us to choose this more laid back and simple version to include in the playlist. Needless to say, I'm sure that the original will be played on most other commercial stations.

As we begin the new year, let me thank all of you for supporting the station. As we work our way towards the Spring thaw, we'll be adding a lot of new music to keep you listening. So, continue to stay tuned! We are also working on getting some swag out there....more to come on that. A big thanks to all of you for supporting the artists. Through word-of-mouth and listening, they're reaping the benefits of airplay here and elsewhere. And that elsewhere could be from friends such as Guido's Lounge Cafe or Koop Kooper and his Cocktail Nation, or the other wonderful radio shows and mixes that my brothers and sisters in this community work so hard at producing and getting out there, on Mixcloud and other internet venues. I salute and praise all of you. I like to think we inspire each other, and keep the creativity flowing.  Thanks to all.

I would also like to thank all of you that are taking the time to go to www.thisislounge.com and casting your vote for your fave New Release. This interaction brings us all closer together. We wellcome it to continue in the new year.

Now, on to the chart. As my friend Koop Kooper likes to say at sign-of - Stay hip!
