The Top Ten - week ending 28 April 2018

Welcome fellow loungers.

As the rest of the world knows by now, "Toronto the Good" became #TorontoStrong this week, after experiencing what London and Nice already have - sadly, a van drove down a sidewalk killing and wounding everyone in it's path. In a city recognized for it's acceptance of diverse cultures, this act was not because of terrorism, but because of one man's mental health issues and his inability to connect with women.

We are standing strong. The world sends their condolences, of which the families affected and the rest of the city, are truly grateful.

Now the healing begins.....

That being said, nothing helps soothe the soul like music. We have a new number one this week - Sambox, as Michael e & Jirka take number two, and songstress Sade's beautiful new song rolls into number three.

Bubbling Under this week are tunes from Paul Blackford, Jessica Lauren, Jojo Effect ft. Iain Mackenzie, and ex-Matt Bianco, Basia who is back with a new album.

Being in mourning for the city, so to speak, I''m not in a talkative mood today.

Thanks for your support, and thanks for spreading the word about This is Lounge.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 21 April 2018

Welcome to The Top Ten!

I’m feeling good this morning, since it seems Spring has finally sprung in my area. With a forecast of sunshine and double digit temperatures (finally), it seems we are saying goodbye to the cold for awhile.

Lots of new music to accompany that sunshine, as we roll out another weekly chart. Once again, Michael e & Jirka have a stronghold on the top spot, as their world chill sounds have struck a chord with listeners.  My Francophone friend, Sambox, takes over the second spot, and Vladi Strecker’s Morning Beach bumps up to position number three. Sade’s Flower of the Universe gains ground, as it comes in a number four.

Lots of movement this week with a couple of Bubbling Under tracks making the leap – Alex Cortiz’s opening track from his new one, The Wondrous World of 6 AM. (I think we’ve all been there and know how wondrous that can really be.) Culling from the jazz world this week, we find Norma’s Girl, the advance track from the Steve Gadd Band’s new album, coming in at number ten.

Filling in that empty Bubbling Under Space are some wonderful new tracks. As we lose Stephanie Sante’s Afterglow from the Top Ten, she surprises us with another new song, Shine on Me, from a new album from her! Received some wonderful new music from Cosmetiq, in the name of Paul Blackford. His chillhop track, The Bento Box Beat, is a welcome addition to the station. We also have a B-side, from a new jazz release from her single, Kofi Nomad. It’s a breezy, summer-loving skat called Amalfi. I think you’ll love it.  Sometimes the B-side can be just as good as the A-side.

Keep listening for other new tracks, which we’ll talk about in the coming weeks.

Thanks for supporting the artists and the station. You keep the music alive.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 14 April 2018

Welcome to the weekend!

Hopefully, the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming where you are. Here, we are still experiencing temperatures a few degrees below normal. Argh! I want Spring! They are, however, predicting we will go straight to Summer, almost overnight. I’m not holding my breath.

Needless to say, we can FEEL like true Spring is upon us, listening to some warm sounds here at This is Lounge.

Besides the wonderful new music in the Top Ten, our regular programming exudes a calm, relaxing tone that is not only stress-reducing, but downright romantic.

Artists like Sambox, Phigroa, Michael e, and Stephanie Sante all wear their hearts in their music. Your support as listeners are truly appreciated.

Speaking of those artists, we see this week that Michael e & Jirka have moved into the top spot, knocking Saib. down a notch to number two, as Sambox slides into number three.

Some new music added to the playlist this week include the single from Stephanie Sante’s new release. Entitled Shine on Me, it is another beautifully chilled piece of music I just know your going to love.

The advance release track from the new Steve Gadd Band album, Norma’s Girl, joins Alex Cortiz in the Bubbling Under group. Tune in to hear these, and all the Top Ten tracks throughout the day and night.

One last thing, the rumors that iTunes will be phasing out the download ability of their songs has really got the DJ community up in arms….and I’m sure, the artists themselves. There has been plenty of rants written about the measly remunerations receive by the artists from Apple for streaming. If they do eliminate purchases, then it is imperative to purchase direct from the artist, through Bandcamp, or their website. I guess we shall have to wait and see if the backlash will do anything to change Apple’s minds. Until then, continue to download.

Thanks, and….

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 7 April 2018

Welcome to Saturday!

The sounds of Spring continue to influence our daily lives. The anticipation of the scents and sounds excites ones psyche, releasing those ever-so-positive endorphins that make us so happy.

Yes, sounds do play a major part in out happy outlook. We all know that hearing a song from the past can trigger fond memories of past loves, or experiences. We at This is Lounge are well aware of this, since programmed between the ambient and chillout tracks are the occasional "blasts from the past" aimed at the listener who will react with a "oh yeah, I remember this" thought.

This week, Saib., who utilizes samples and spoken word from the past, brings out that warm feeling when I listen to Archipelago....so very nice.

The very diverse artistry of Michael e & Jirka and Vladi Strecker round out the top three this week, as Sambox slips to fourth.

Bringing a little more jazz to The Top Ten, be sure to listen for a track from the new album from the Steve Gadd Band, entitled Norma's Girl

I appreciate you lending your ears to our playlist. We're here for you 24/7, anytime you just want to push "play" and relax.

Thanks for supporting our artists. Please use the links below, or visit your favorite download store.

Enjoy.

Stay chilled.
